Ecosystems, biodiversity and human well-being

Forests and biodiversity

Forests are an ecosystem where there is a constant flow of energy and matter, and mutual action results from all its biotic and abiotic components.

A big part of the forest’s resilience depends on its biodiversity, which is like a toolbox that make life work since it is an essential piece for it to work and exist:

  • Nutrient cycling.
  • Water regulation.
  • Weather regulation.
  • Atmospherically gases evaluation.
  • Carbon dioxide extraction.
  • Weather inclemency protection.
  • Matter production.
  • Recreation and clean air.
  • Genetics resources.

Climate change and water

These last centuries, the sustained rising in the Earth’s average temperature, is known as global warming, which is strictly linked to the growing greenhouse effects gases (GHG) in the atmosphere, increasing the greenhouse effect and producing a terrestrial climate change that causes consequences such as:
  • Hydrological stress.
  • Desertification.
  • Lost in biodiversity.
  • Rising in extreme climate events.
  • Rising sea level.
  • Lost in energy and food security.
  • Lost in ecosystem services.

The weather is the external factor that rule intensively the global patterns of the ecosystem processes and structures. In consequence the most possibility of species extinction and fundamental ecological processes to the life on earth.

Socioecology and resilient cities

The aim is to create changes in our society, encouraging sustainability through solutions based on nature, which allows us to conserve the most representative ecosystems that form the landscape, biodiversity, and ecosystemic services provided to our citizens.

Education

We want all social actors to be actively part of the preservation and conservation of our environment and thus improve biodiversity conservation and its ecosystems.

We are looking for that our activities let us show the value of our nature, to protect it and take care of it.

Especies Endémicas

Copihue

Familia: Philesiaceae
